The Metropolitan Police Department has made an arrest following an incident involving unlawful entry and an assault on a police officer in Southeast D.C., and is seeking assistance to locate two suspects still at large. According to the department's official release, around 11:31 p.m. on Sunday night, officers were called to the 900 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast, after three men entered a parking garage without authorization. The ensuing escape was hasty and chaotic, with one suspect apprehended while the other two—one armed with a knife and the other with a handgun—evaded capture by fleeing on a stolen motorcycle, narrowly missing an officer in the process.
The individual currently in custody is 49-year-old Tarik Kevel of Southeast, D.C., slapped with charges including Unlawful Entry, Resisting Arrest, and Fugitive from Justice, as stated in the MPD's report. As for the two suspects still at large, the MPD is appealing to the community for information and offers a reward of up to $10,000 for any details that could lead to an arrest and conviction.
Should anyone possess information that could potentially aid the investigation, they are urged to call the police at (202) 727-9099 or to submit a tip via text to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411; the MPD emphatically stresses that individuals should not confront these suspects themselves and instead leave the matter in the hands of law enforcement professionals.
