The Metropolitan Police Department is in the midst of an investigation following a deadly shooting that shook the Northeast quadrant of the city earlier this week. In the early hours of Monday, September 2, 2024, the sound of gunfire prompted officers to rush to the 2800 block of 7th Street, Northeast, where, upon their arrival they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, despite the first responders' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Townsend Reginald Sowell, a resident of Northeast, this somber news was shared in a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Authorities are calling upon the public to come forward with any knowledge regarding the incident, urging individuals not to intervene but to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or to text tips to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, there's also a reward of up to $25,000 on offer for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
