Students at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City found their school day cut short following a sudden power outage on Friday morning. The school announced via a social media post that their main building had lost power, without any prospect for a quick resolution, as reported by KFOR.
According to a report by News 9, the local energy provider, OG&E, has cited underground power line issues as the reason for the disruption, with no possibility of the power being restored the same day. Administration shared an alternative contact number for parents to check out their students, "Family members can call 405-417-7811 to check out your student. Our school phone lines are not functioning," the school said. Students who were not picked up by family by 10 a.m. were slated to be sent home via their regular bus routes.
Although the outage was an unanticipated event, the faculty seemed prepared to mitigate any further inconvenience it would cause to the students’ day. In an article by KOCO, it was stated that, students who usually walked were released at 10 a.m., allowing them a safe and structured departure. "Parents are allowed to check out their students, and it will be counted as an excused absence," the school also ensured, seeking to maintain a semblance of order amidst the unexpected turn of events.
