Milton firefighters are leading the charge in empowering residents with lifesaving skills as all seats for their upcoming CPR and AED class have been quickly filled. According to a recent announcement, they had to increase the capacity by 40% with the demand for the class, a testament to the community's eagerness to learn these crucial techniques.
Scheduled for 5 p.m. on October 14 at the Fire Station 44, the class is part of the Milton Fire CARES program aimed at fostering a healthier community. Due to the high demand, the initial 12 spots were expanded to 20, allowing more citizens an opportunity to become adept at potentially saving lives. The Milton Fire CARES program's mission was highlighted, offering direct care and education to engage the local population.
In this class, participants will receive hands-on training to carry out hands-only CPR, use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and assist someone who is choking. While this particular session does not offer an official Red Cross CPR certification, attendees walk away with essential knowledge that could be critical in an emergency situation, as explained by the recent announcement.
Classes like these strive to put more people in a position to intervene effectively. Milton Fire-Rescue underscores this urgency with a partnership with PulsePoint, which keeps qualified citizens informed about nearby AED locations and alerts them to cardiac arrest incidents, a service mentioned in the initial news release.
Furthermore, bolstering the regional importance of such training, the Rotary Club of North Fulton's recent $5,000 grant targets to augment the frequency of similar training sessions, increase AED availability, and enhance heart health consciousness across the community. The concerted efforts by various organizations emphasize the shared goal to amplify the readiness of ordinary citizens in times of medical emergencies.
