The City of Milwaukee is officially on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree to grace Deer District and mark the city's 111th year of holiday tradition. According to FOX6, the Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW), together with the Milwaukee Bucks, is calling for residents and property owners to nominate their trees as candidates for the 2024 City of Milwaukee Christmas tree display. This year’s tree will be a centerpiece in the festive Deer District near Fiserv Forum.

To be considered, a tree must be at least 30 feet tall, free from overhead wires, and meet criteria for size, shape, uniformity, density, and color. As WISN outlines, these qualifications are crucial for ensuring the tree can be safely harvested and then transported to its holiday home. It will be the center of the Deer District’s festive transformation into the 'Cheer District'.

DPW Forestry staff will handle the tree cutting, preparation, and stump removal, continuing a century-old tradition of bringing a piece of the city's history to the holiday season. The process will conclude with a ceremonious police escort downtown, as per CBS58, ensuring the tree’s safe passage.

Residents who wish to contribute a tree for Milwaukee’s holiday tradition must contact the City of Milwaukee at 286-CITY (2489) by October 4. The chosen tree's donor will be invited to the tree lighting ceremony with Mayor Cavalier Johnson and receive decoration guidance from style expert David Caruso.

Last year's tree, a Colorado Blue Spruce, was sourced from a local home near 74th and Congress, highlighting that Milwaukee’s community tree comes from its own area and reflects the city's pride in its winter celebration.
