Milwaukee Man Charged with Attempted Homicide of Three Officers Set for Court AppearanceSource: Google Street View

A Milwaukee man is set to appear in court Tuesday after being charged with the attempted homicide of three police officers. Keith William Jeter, 35, faces several felony charges, including four counts of attempted first degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, according to TMJ4. The charges come in the wake of a Sept. 5 incident during which police say Jeter opened fire on officers attempting to apprehend him under a warrant for domestic violence-related charges.

The three officers received only graze wounds in the exchange, which occurred at Jeter's apartment near 91st and Custer. FOX6 News reported that the Milwaukee Police Department Special Investigations Unit and the US Marshals Service were involved in the operative to serve Jeter his arrest warrant. The situation escalated after officers forcefully entered Jeter's home, upon which Jeter began shooting, barricading himself in a bedroom, at some point during the standoff, he asked officers to end his life if he surrendered, to which they declined.

In a post-arrest interview Jeter conceded that he fired on officers to provoke them to shoot back, expressing in his words that he'd "rather go to the morgue than to jail." This sentiment echoed a promise he claimed to have made to his mother about preferring death to incarceration, detailed in the charges filed by prosecutors and reported by WISN.

Legal proceedings against Jeter are moving forward as he recovers from a bullet wound to the arm sustained in the shootout. The officers involved were also treated for their minor injuries. In addition to the attempted homicide and reckless endangerment charges, Jeter is charged with bail jumping and possession of a firearm by a felon. He remains in custody as the case continues and community deliberations ensue regarding police tactics, the handling of potentially volatile arrests, and Jeter's own spiraling descent on the day of the confrontation.
