"I think that I may have made history as the first mayor to rappel down a building in Milwaukee," Mayor Johnson said, proudly breaking with tradition.
Rappelling alongside other community figures, over 30 people, including Mayor Johnson, faced the Milwaukee Athletic Club's heights to promote "Doors Open Milwaukee". In a statement obtained by CBS 58, Johnson shared his enthusiasm, "It was absolutely incredible. I would do it again...it was really really fun." The mayor emphasized the importance of Historic Milwaukee's work, acknowledging their role in helping residents and visitors alike experience the city from unique perspectives.
Historic Milwaukee, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has continually worked towards such engaging experiences. They requested participants to raise $500 each for the privilege to rappel, contributing to next weekend's Doors Open event. The weekend affair offers an intimate look at locales such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, City Hall, and the Pfister Hotel. Mayor Johnson told WISN, stating that Doors Open lets Milwaukeeans "connect with their city."
Fire Chief Aaron Lipski and the Milwaukee Bucks' mascot Bango, who rappelled on a sunnier Friday. Despite the weather conditions, the event proceeded to highlight Milwaukee's architectural heritage. Emphasizing the city's dedication to its historical heritage, "rain or shine" the event took place, according to a release mentioned by TMJ4. Doors Open Milwaukee will open its doors to the public next weekend, on September 28 and 29, inviting all to discover the architectural treasures of Milwaukee.
