This Saturday, Milwaukee residents are invited to a community cookout hosted by the Mitchell Clarke Friends group. The gathering, taking place in Mitchell Park, is not only a social occasion but also serves a significant civic purpose—it's a platform to educate locals on the forthcoming $133.4 million overhaul of the iconic Mitchell Park Domes. A statement obtained by Milwaukee County details the event's objectives.
Amid the prospect of a sizzling grill and family-friendly activities, Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez along with local residents Paul Grippe, and Brandon Payton-Carrillo have emphasized the importance of communal input. "We see this as an opportunity not just to save the Domes, but to reimagine their role in our community," Martinez said. Optimism about the park's potential vibrates through the community, with Grippe calling the Domes the "Ninth Wonder of the World" and Payton-Carrillo highlighting the need for advocacy in protecting cherished park spaces, as reported by the Milwaukee County.
The proposed redevelopment, which involves a partnership with Milwaukee County Parks, is aimed at securing the Domes' future and boosting park facilities. The Friendly group behind the renovation is working to gather $30 million from Milwaukee County itself, along with a further $35 million via private donations. Saturday's event will offer a chance for attendees to engage with the Friends of the Domes to better understand the vision laid out for this landmark project.
The cookout slated for September 21 from noon to 4 PM, promises not just food and music but also an occasion for Milwaukee's citizens to partake in the shaping of their local environment. Supervisor Martinez, and representatives of the Friends of the Domes, will be on-hand eagerly awaiting the feedback and participation of community members, signaling a collaborative journey towards rejuvenating one of Milwaukee's wonders.
