Residents and commuters in Minneapolis might need to adjust their routes and parking plans as CenterPoint Energy begins an infrastructure upgrade on Aldrich Avenue S. Starting from Tuesday, September 17, a crew from Michels Corporation, who are authorized by CenterPoint Energy, will be working to install a new natural gas main under the east sidewalk of Aldrich Avenue S. between 38th Street W. and 41st Street W. The project, aiming to enhance the gas delivery system in the area, is expected to continue until early October.
The construction work will also feature moving inside gas meters to outside locations on an appointment basis. This change is part of CenterPoint Energy’s efforts to replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main. To accommodate the installation process, parking, and sidewalks will be temporarily closed along the east side of Aldrich Avenue S. from 38th Street W. to 41st Street W., and also on the north side of both 41st Street W. from Bryant Avenue S. to Aldrich Avenue S. and 39th Street W. from Bryant Avenue S. to Lyndale Avenue S. Due to the disruptions, residents are advised to plan ahead to avoid any potential inconvenience.
Following the service line and meter work, CenterPoint's gas crew will proceed to temporarily backfill the excavated areas. The backfilling with dirt or gravel serves as a placeholder until the restoration crew from Q3 Contracting, another CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, comes to complete the work. According to a bulletin issued by CenterPoint Energy, these areas will eventually be filled with black dirt, grass seed, and wood fiber netting, a material that naturally degrades within roughly four months. Homeowners should remove any loose staples left behind by the netting before mowing the restored lawn.
For those seeking further information about the project or having specific questions, CenterPoint Energy has made available contact options including a Communications Specialist. The company has kindly asked for the public's patience while these necessary upgrades to the natural gas infrastructure are being carried out.
