Following a city council meeting on September 9, the City of Minnetonka moved forward on several fronts. In a bid to bring cleaner energy to the public sphere, the City Council took strides in embracing solar power by completing preliminary steps for the Solar on Public Buildings Grant Program. According to the City of Minnetonka, Central Fire Station #1 and Well #3 are preliminary targets for this initiative. The staff will proceed with the application, and further considerations will be made once the Minnesota Department of Commerce reviews the grant request.
In another significant measure, the council repealed a section of the city code that once governed the operation of veterinary hospitals. The decision was made to modernize the city's approach to veterinary services, distinguishing them from commercial kennels—an outdated practice that no longer aligns with regional standards. "The ordinance brings the city into alignment with regional practices and eliminates redundancy," as stated by the City of Minnetonka.
The matter of property nuisances was also on the table during the recent meeting. The City Council conducted a public hearing, followed by the approval of special assessments for property-related issues for the 2023-2024 period, as per the City of Minnetonka.
