Residents of Philadelphia can breathe a sigh of relief as the Philadelphia Police Department has successfully located Michael Garruto, a 48-year-old mobile mechanic who had gone missing from the 14th District. Having last been seen on September 13, 2024, Garruto was reported to be working on a vehicle in his white 2009 Chevrolet Express box truck, near 2000 Ellsworth Street, according to the police department's blotter.
Before he was found, the search for Garruto involved numerous appeals to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. Known to live on the 100 block of W Allens Lane, he is described as standing 5’9″ tall, weighing 240 pounds, with brown eyes, greying brown hair, and a full beard – features now familiar to many Philadelphians, thanks to widespread community engagement and concern over his disappearance. While his clothing at the time he went missing was not noted, his distinctive vehicle bearing Pennsylvania license plate #ZWV-8800, helped lead to his eventual discovery.
The Philadelphia Police were succinct in their announcement that Garruto had been located, offering no details on the circumstances of his disappearance or how he was found. Nevertheless, the resolution of the case provided a welcome closure to all those involved, from family and friends to the community at large who had taken up the cause of finding one of their own.
