A 32-year-old Monroe man tragically lost his life in a vehicular accident last Saturday night, as confirmed by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. The collision involving a rollover occurred around 10:30 p.m. on South Stony Creek Road, not far from where it intersects Sumpter Road in Exeter Township. According to the sheriff's office, the late Zachary Zalenski, identified as the victim, was heading northwest on the road in a 2002 Ford Trailblazer. As per WXYZ, officials said that Zalenski's vehicle veered across the centerline, which inevitably led to him losing control.
As reported by CBS News Detroit, in an attempt to quickly regain control of the Trailblazer, Zalenski overcorrected, which caused his vehicle to exit the roadway. His SUV then ended up in a ditch before it overturned, ultimately colliding with a utility pole and landing on its roof, facing east. Tragically, Zalenski was not wearing a seatbelt, and despite the presence of airbags in the vehicle, they did not deploy upon impact.
Zalenski was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has noted that careless driving was a key factor in the accident. However, as of now, it is unclear if intoxicants played any role in the unfortunate event. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and authorities are actively seeking any additional information from potential witnesses or individuals with relevant knowledge about the incident.
