The Metropolitan Police Department is currently piecing together the details of a fatal shooting that has rocked the Northeast quadrant of the city. The incident took place late Friday, at around 11:04 p.m., when police were called to the 4500 block of Quarles Street following reports of gunshots. When officers arrived, they discovered evidence of a shooting, but no victim was found at the scene, according to a recent press release from the MPD.
In a twist that was as unfortunate as it was unexpected, the victim, an adult male, was later found at a nearby DC Fire and EMS station. It's not fully clear how the victim, subsequently identified as 30-year-old James Gripper of Bladensburg, MD, arrived at the fire station. Gripper was quickly transported to a local hospital to hastily receive medical attention, but tragically succumbed to his gunshot wound injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department is appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this heinous act. They're offering up to $25,000 as a reward for details contributing to solving the case. As per the MPD's announcement, they urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to "take no action but call police" at (202) 727-9099 or to text their tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
