In a coordinated rescue effort, California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division Air Operations team, California State Parks, and the San Rafael Fire Department responded to a distress call after a woman fell from a cliff at China Camp State Park. The incident, which occurred shortly after 1pm on Sunday, resulted in the woman sustaining severe injuries.
The victim, an adult female, had reportedly fallen from the edge of a cliff directly onto the rocky shoreline below, subsequently ending up in the bay water. Firefighters from the San Rafael Fire Department managed to reach the critically injured woman, extracting her from the perilous water. According to CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations, their Flight Officer/paramedic assisted the ground team by placing her into a specialized rescue device for safe extraction from the scene.
Despite the challenging position of the patient, rescue teams effectively collaborated to minimize the time spent in the dangerous situation. The multi-agency rescue operation showcased the importance of response time and expertise in mitigating the effects of the accident, which authorities described as involving "major multi system trauma." According to CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations, the woman was airlifted to a local hospital, though her condition at the time remained undisclosed.
