The Anaheim Police Department has undertaken a substantial sweep at La Palma Park in response to the recent uptick in drug-related activities that have reportedly impacted the surrounding community, including a charter school across the street. According to a CBS News report, officers detained 17 individuals during the operation, arresting seven, one of which was on charges of felony narcotics sales. Additionally, in a show of community outreach, five individuals were provided with detox and housing services.
Amidst the enforcement, officers discovered one of the individuals detained to be an eight-month-pregnant woman, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for care and housing. The actions taken by the police aimed to simultaneously enforce the law and actively offer compassionate aid to those in need. The Anaheim Police Department highlighted the collaboration, stating it was "a great team effort to enforce the law while showing compassion and offering services in addition to the legal process."
The sweep extended beyond the park to address issues on the 2200 block of W. Lincoln Avenue. There, officers responded to complaints about an increase in homeless individuals using narcotics. Lyons Security cleared refuse in the area following the police action, which is reported to be thoroughly cleaned by public works subsequently.
During this extended operation, two individuals were found unconscious in a vehicle and were arrested for narcotics violations. Both parties agreed to voluntarily proceed to detox services following their arrest. For the efficacy of the operations and safety of the area, the vehicle in question was impounded.
