Recent charges have been added to the case of Jarrett Buba, the suspect linked to two separate instances of attacks involving glass bottles. Buba, 52, is accused of assaulting two Jewish students on the University of Pittsburgh campus, as well as engaging in an earlier altercation near Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), as reported by TribLIVE.
According to CBS News Pittsburgh, Buba now faces harassment charges on top of aggravated assault charges that resulted from an incident a day before the attack on the Pitt students. The initial confrontation took place along South Craig Street, where Buba allegedly threw a glass bottle at a vehicle, missing and striking another passing car. At the time, CMU police were alerted by the two victims inside the car but failed to locate Buba following the incident.
Surveillance footage from August 29 obtained by Carnegie Mellon University Police shows a man, identified as Buba, holding a green glass bottle shortly before the alleged assault. Buba supposedly made eye contact with the victims and "had a smile on his face before he yelled and rushed them," as detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh. Despite this smile, his intent, it appeared, was far from friendly.
In a related report by TribLIVE, the following day's events culminated in Buba's arrest. The University of Pittsburgh Police reported that Buba attacked two Jewish students, identifiable by their yarmulkas, hitting one in the neck and the other on his cheek. After obtaining Buba's arrest photo, CMU officers matched him to the individual in the surveillance video from the prior incident. Buba, now being held at the Allegheny County Jail, is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 12.
