Last night, chaos unfolded in Petaluma as collisions scattered across several blocks disrupted the neighborhood's quiet. At around 7:57 PM, the local police department received multiple 911 calls reporting that a white Dodge pickup truck, driven by Manuel Ramirez-Pablo, had struck several parked vehicles and houses before becoming lodged beside a residential fence. According to the Petaluma Police Department's Facebook page, by the time officers arrived, Ramirez-Pablo was unconscious behind the wheel, the pickup truck's engine still running.
In their effort to apprehend the driver, the police had to hastily break the passenger window after multiple failed attempts to get Ramirez to unlock the doors. Upon apprehension, Ramirez exhibited clear signs of alcohol impairment and was subsequently determined to be driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit. "Ramirez displayed objective signs of heavy alcohol intoxication," the Petaluma Police Department stated in a post.
The path of destruction left by Ramirez included several homes suffering considerable damage and multiple vehicles, including one incident where a mother and infant were inside one of the impacted cars. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, a fact the Petaluma Fire Department underscored upon evaluating and confirming the child's well-being.
Throughout this distressing incident, witnesses described Ramirez's driving as erratic and reckless. His wayward journey even led him to strike the same residence twice. "Numerous area residents reported that Ramirez’s driving was erratic and reckless," noted the Petaluma Police Department. Ramirez has been arrested and faces charges of DUI and several counts of hit and run. His vehicle has been impounded and is currently booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
