A dispute between neighbors in San Antonio's west side over the disruptive noise of loose animals culminated in a fatal exchange of gunfire late Saturday night. According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Balboa Street, just off Castroville Road. KSAT reports that witnesses heard the men's heated argument escalate before shots rang out.
The aftermath of the incident left 33-year-old Cody Guerrero dead at the scene, as confirmed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. An older neighbor, a 71-year-old man, sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to an local hospital for treatment. The SAPD is now tasked with unraveling who initiated the gunfire, as the lines of aggression in the incident remain blurred at this time.
Guerrero, who was found lying in the street, was pronounced dead by emergency personnel, while the 71-year-old's injuries reportedly included a gunshot to the backside. Authorities have not yet determined if charges will be brought against the surviving shooter, as the investigation is ongoing. According to a statement obtained by KENS 5, detectives are still piecing together the events of that night.
