The National Weather Service has released a detailed forecast for the upcoming week, indicating a succession of rainy and stormy days ahead. According to the latest update, which puts the humidity at 56% and the temperature around a fair 78°F, residents can expect an array of conditions dominated by showers and thunderstorms, especially as the city moves into midweek with the possibility of a tropical storm. The National Weather Service advises on its website that today there is a 50 percent chance of precipitation primarily post 1pm, with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, barring higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.
For tonight, forecasts show a 40 percent chance of rain and storms, leading into a determined wet Tuesday, with an 80% chance for showers and the potential for 1 to 2 inches of new rainfall, residents in New Orleans should prepare for a steady temperature around 77 while battling the east wind around 10 mph, and then nighttime isn't looking any drier, carrying the same high chances of showers and storm conditions. Wednesday escalates these conditions, with a 90% likelihood of rain and storms, some of which can produce heavy rainfall, and the heat index barely providing respite, hovering just above the actual temperatures with winds gusting as high as 25 mph.
The middle of the week could see the situation skew towards the more severe side, with the National Weather Service anticipating tropical storm conditions Wednesday night, calling for showers and possible thunderstorms before giving way to likely showers and potential storms after 1 am; the low is predicted to sit around the mid-70s. The week is expected to maintain this pattern—showers likely, punctuated by possible thunderstorms on Thursday, with a high near 84 and gusty winds—as New Orleans weathers through a turbulent phase.
Rolling towards the weekend, the stormy situation is forecasted to taper, albeit slightly, with lower chances of showers and thunderstorms by Thursday night and more hopeful skies by Friday; the forecast suggests a high around 85 with a continued albeit lighter wind presence. The weekend outlook remains cautiously optimistic, with a "slight chance" of rain and storms amidst mostly sunny conditions and highs reaching 86, National Weather Service forecasts a comparatively calmer close to the week however winds staying persistent in their change from south to west after midnight as we close out Saturday night.
