After more than a decade since the incident occurred, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has made a significant breakthrough in a 2014 homicide case. Detectives from the NOPD's Homicide Section Cold Case Unit have successfully obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that took the life of 30-year-old Michael Young. The suspect, identified as Gordon Lewis, was already serving time in the Louisiana Department of Corrections for unrelated charges. New Orleans Police Department News reports the arrest warrant was issued on one count of second-degree murder.
On January 9, 2014, New Orleans Police Department officers responded to a call on South Robertson Street and found an adult male, later identified as Young, with multiple gunshot wounds. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that gunshot injuries were the cause of death, leading to a long search for justice, which has now seen a breakthrough.
The motive behind the 2014 homicide and the connection between Lewis and Young are still under investigation. With Lewis now in custody, New Orleans Police Department detectives will return him to Orleans Parish to face charges.
The New Orleans Police Department is still seeking public assistance with the investigation and encourages anyone with information to contact their Homicide Section Cold Case Unit. Despite recent developments, all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
