A New Orleans man, Kevin Laday, age 34, has entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance for possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office on September 23, Laday sold firearms and ammunition to undercover ATF agents.

During a sting operation that spanned from August 16 to August 28, 2023, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives communicated with Laday, who has previous convictions, about the illegal firearms. On August 28, Laday proceeded with the illicit sale in New Orleans. Now, he is facing up to fifteen years in prison, a fine that could reach $250,000, up to three years of supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee when sentenced on January 15, 2025.

The case against Laday is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a government initiative aimed at curbing violent crime and gun violence to create safer communities. The Department of Justice has reinforced PSN with a focus on building trust, supporting community organizations, focused enforcement, and performance measurements since May 26, 2021.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman is prosecuting Laday's case. This case shows a strong commitment to Project Safe Neighborhoods, aimed at making communities safer through coordinated law enforcement.
