The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) is urging residents to firmly keep their dogs on leashes while visiting local parks and trails. This initiative dubbed the "Leash Up North Clackamas" campaign, is a direct response to a growing number of off-leash dog incidents reported by community members. In a recent statement released by the NCPRD, the campaign aims to ensure that parks are safe places for everyone to enjoy.
By keeping dogs leashed, the NCPRD believes it can help to prevent potential problems before they escalate. "Allowing people of all ages who are fearful of dogs to feel safe," is one of the cited benefits of this policy, reported by Clackamas County. Additionally, this measure is meant to reduce the likelihood of dog bites and fights, as "not all dogs can be friends."
The new campaign also highlights the importance of protecting the local wildlife and their habitats, which can inadvertently be disrupted by free-roaming dogs. It is crucial to remember that, in this district, having a dog off-leash is not only against park policy but also violates local laws (Ordinance No. 07-2004), reminding dog owners that they are legally required to leash their pets in these communal areas.
