
A routine traffic stop in south Charlotte escalated into a violent encounter on Sunday evening, with both a police officer and the suspect injured following an exchange of gunfire, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). The incident, which unfolded in the 8900 block of E. Arrowood Road around 7:30 p.m., began when officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon, according to a statement obtained by WBTV.
During the attempted stop of a vehicle suspected to be involved, a suspect wielded a handgun precipitating an exchange of gunfire, during which an officer was struck multiple times sustaining serious injuries and the suspect suffered life-threatening injuries before both were hurriedly transported to the hospital, this follows an account of the press conference held by CMPD.
