An 8-year-old girl in Ohio made an unexpected journey when she drove herself to a Target store after being reported missing from her home on a Sunday morning. According to NBC4i, Bedford police received calls first about the missing child, followed by reports of a "small child driving east on Rockside Road." The officers found the vehicle in the Target parking lot in Bainbridge, more than 10 miles from where the child was reported missing. The child was unharmed inside the store, stating she had “struck a mailbox” during her travels.
Neighbors provided critical evidence aiding the police with Ring doorbell camera footage that showed the young girl entering the car and driving off, FOX19 reported. Despite her young age, the girl managed to navigate the car on this solo adventure, an incident that left many astonished and equally relieved that no one was injured in the process. Her relatives were summoned to Target to retrieve the girl and the vehicle.
The girl's route, still unclear, could have included busy roads and intersections, posing serious risks to herself and other drivers and pedestrians. Fortunately, despite the unexpected detour involving a mailbox, the young adventurer arrived at her destination without injury. Her family retrieved her from the Target store, and due to her age, she will not face any criminal charges, as she is too young for such proceedings, police told News Nation Now.
Local law enforcement highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the fortunate outcome given the potential hazards. The police are grateful "no one was injured," as the officers reported to NBC4i.
