Residents of Southeast Oklahoma City may have been startled by unexpected explosive sounds this morning, but officials from the Oklahoma City Police Department assured the public there was no cause for alarm. The loud booms, heard near the department's pistol range close to Interstate 240 and Air Depot Boulevard, were part of a controlled disposal of old explosives by the Oklahoma City Police Department, as reported by KFOR.
Beginning at 8:00 a.m., residents living in proximity to the area were warned of the possibility of hearing these detonations. "The public may hear some loud booms if you live in the area of Oklahoma City Police Department’s pistol range near I-240/Air Depot," the Oklahoma City Police Department communicated, according to the same KOCO report. This initiative is a routine procedure to ensure that outdated and potentially dangerous materials are safely disposed of.
Concurrently, News 9 highlighted the department's efforts to maintain control over the situation, reassuring that, despite the startling nature of explosives, the police had the situation well in hand. No injuries or damages from the controlled detonations were reported, confirming the effectiveness of Oklahoma City Police Department’s safety protocols.
