This past Friday, a shooting at H-E-B in northeast Austin claimed the life of one person. As reported by MySA, the incident is being investigated as the 47th homicide in the city this year. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the scene at the grocery store located at 500 Canyon Ridge Drive after receiving reports of trespassing.
While officers were initially called to the scene for a trespassing incident, they were quickly updated that multiple calls about a shooting were coming in. Upon arrival just before 4 p.m., authorities found a man presenting with obvious signs of trauma. Efforts to save the man's life were unsuccessful, as he later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, an ordeal described by CBS Austin.
According to the provided details, the man's identity has yet to be disclosed. The Austin police worked alongside EMS personnel in an attempt to stabilize the victim before he was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. late Friday evening. Following this declaration, law enforcement shifted gears to treat the case as a homicide investigation, the Austin Police Department confirmed.
The suspect involved remained at the scene and was detained by detectives, seemingly to cooperate with the questioning. APD has stressed that the incident seems to be isolated, maintaining that there is no known threat to the public. "The person who opened fire remained at the scene and the incident," as stated by MySA. APD is urging anyone with further information to come forward and contact the APD Homicide tip line.
As the investigation proceeds, APD Homicide Detectives continue to diligently work at the scene.
