A tragic outbreak of violence disrupted the calm of a Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood Friday night, leaving one man dead and three others wounded. Authorities were first called to the scene for a car crash at the intersection of 58th Street and Greenway Avenue when a separate shooting on Woodland Avenue escalated the evening's urgency, NBC Philadelphia reported.
Upon arrival at the 6600 block of Woodland Avenue, officers discovered a 58-year-old man with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest inside a corner store, FOX 29 details. The victim, transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, was pronounced dead approximately 40 minutes later. Among the injured, a 28-year-old man, who was shot multiple times in both legs, was taken to the same hospital by a private vehicle, and is now listed in stable condition, the police auditioned to the public's knowledge.
As the investigation unfolds, two other victims' fates hang in the balance; one, a 25-year-old man is critical after sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck. The other, a 42-year-old man who was shot in the back, is stable, as 6ABC notes. Police at the scene recovered around 11 shell casings, a grim testament to the violence that occurred.
While the search for the shooter or shooters continues, police have not yet released any descriptions of suspects.
