
A deadly fire ripped through a Tamalpais Valley home, killing one person and claiming the life of one canine, while four other dogs were rescued. The fire, which occurred at 744 Alta Vista Road, was met by swift action from the Engine 4 team upon their arrival at 12:38 AM. They encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the front and a window on the side of the house, as reported by the Southern Marin Fire District.
The firefighters' quick response led them to a victim who was in a back bedroom and although their efforts were valiant the victim who sustained significant burns was declared deceased at the scene, the tragedy unfolded while the crew fiercely battled the blaze which was contained in 20 minutes and fully extinguished by 1:09 AM. Five dogs were present during the incident, with one not surviving the ordeal. The Southern Marin Fire District confirmed their focus on human and animal lives in such dire circumstances.
No other civilian casualties or injuries to firefighters have been reported concerning the fire. Multiple agencies collaborated in the firefighting efforts, assisting the district. Collaborating agencies listed by the Southern Marin Fire District include Marin County Fire, Central Marin Fire, Tiburon Fire, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and PG&E.
