An Orlando man, aged 51, was tragically killed after being struck by a SunRail train. According to WFTV, the fatality occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. on the tracks near South Orange Avenue and Pine Street in Orange County. The circumstances surrounding the incident have led to an ongoing investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Following the incident, SunRail service experienced significant delays. In particular, the southbound train P323 SB and the northbound train P322 had to be stopped around 3 p.m. as FHP began to investigate the site thoroughly. As mentioned in a report by FOX 35 Orlando, a bus bridge service was quickly implemented to aid commuters between Sand Lake Rd. and Meadow Woods stations. The delay lasted 75 minutes, impacting numerous passengers' travel plans.
Initial findings by FHP indicated that the deceased had been sitting close to the tracks before deciding to walk east into the path of the oncoming southbound train, resulting in his death on the scene. WFTV notes that no other injuries were sustained in the collision, and no hospital transports were required from the train. The roadblock on Pine Street affected traffic in both directions, adding to the overall disruptions caused by the incident.
