In Williamson County, the Regional Animal Shelter has been bustling with activity this past weekend, participating in the national "Clear The Shelters" campaign. This special adoption event, running from Friday through Sunday, aimed to connect animals needing homes with prospective pet parents, offering a waiver on all adoption fees throughout the three-day stretch.
Community Programs Coordinator April Peiffer reported that over 60 dogs and cats found new homes during the free adoption event. In a statement obtained by CBS Austin, Peiffer detailed that Friday, 6 dogs and 5 cats were fostered, and 8 dogs and 13 cats were adopted. Saturday brought to foster 13 dogs and 1 cat, alongside 6 dogs and 12 cats that were adopted. By Sunday afternoon, an additional 2 dogs had been fostered.
Offering convenience to prospective adopters, the shelter extended its Saturday hours, closing two hours later at 8 p.m., as reported by KXAN. The extended hours were part of an effort to ensure more community members could visit the shelter and interact with the animals. The weekend's operational hours were Friday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter encouraged future pet owners to "find many wonderful animals waiting for loving new homes," inviting people to either schedule an appointment online or to simply walk in and meet their potential new companions, as stated by KXAN. This initiative falls in line with other local efforts like Austin Pets Alive!, which also participated in the “Clear The Shelters” initiative.
