PennDOT's Westmoreland County maintenance team prepares for a busy week starting September 30. According to the latest update by PennDOT, Maintenance Manager Dave Forkey and his crew are set to initiate various road maintenance operations, with base repairs on Route 66 in Washington Township and a significant box culvert replacement set to close Route 4089 (Hulton Road) in Allegheny Township, redirecting traffic via a well-posted detour.
For commuters in Westmoreland County, maintenance work will involve detours and potential delays as flaggers and single-lane restrictions are implemented. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously and stay alert in these areas, where headlights are required even during the day. The upcoming maintenance tasks are extensive, including edge paving and fog sealing on several routes, necessary patching on Route 711, and various other countywide activities.
In an effort to maintain road safety and infrastructure integrity, PennDOT's crews will also be carrying out pipe installations and replacements, such as on Route 4034 (Orr Avenue) and Route 4007 (Ridge Road), respectively, on top of their ongoing commitments to seal coating, shoulder stabilization, and side dozing covering multiple routes within the county, representing PennDOT's continuous devotion to transportation safety and efficiency.
Despite the scheduled work, PennDOT has enabled residents to contribute to road maintenance by providing a toll-free number, 1-800-FIX-ROAD (1-800-349-7623), allowing the community to report maintenance issues or deceased wildlife obstructing state highways. This approach encourages collaboration in road upkeep and streamlines the process for addressing urgent concerns. Staying informed about traffic conditions is also straightforward through the 511PA website, which offers live updates on traffic, weather, and access to over 1,000 cameras for real-time visual feedback.
The collaborative effort includes dedicated crews addressing additional tasks like litter removal, sign replacements, and sweeping operations on I-70 and various county routes. Residents and travelers can expect these changes and are encouraged to utilize the available resources to stay informed and navigate their commutes during this maintenance period.
