The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 64-year-old David Egle, an inmate at the Pinellas County Jail, as reported on their official website. Egle had been incarcerated since September 1, following his arrest by the Largo Police Department on charges related to driving with a suspended license and probation violation.
Egle was found unresponsive in his jail cell on the morning of September 4, medical staff and deputies at the jail attempted life-saving measures and were soon joined by paramedics but despite their efforts, Egle was declared dead at 8:59 a.m., mere minutes after he was found. Detectives thus far have found no sign that he was involved in any altercations or sustained injuries while in jail, which has led to an ongoing inquiry into what transpired in the hours leading up to his death.
As part of the investigation, the Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of Egle's death. This process could provide crucial insights into whether his demise resulted from natural causes, a medical emergency, or if there were any unforeseen complications related to his detention.
While details remain scant, the sheriff's office has communicated that Egle's next of kin have been informed of his passing and the detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit, who handle inmate death inquiries among their scope of work, will continue their investigation to piece together the events that led to this outcome are actively piecing together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
