Authorities in Squirrel Hill conducted a search that resulted in a significant seizure of firearms, narcotics, and cash after a reported trespass attempt at a childcare center. According to a report from the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, the incident occurred on the 5600 block of Solway Street this past Friday.
After arriving at the location in response to the trespass report, police established contact with a male on the second floor of an apartment building. Told to the police by the suspect that he was staying with a friend, officers observed illegal items exposed in the apartment and pursued a search warrant. A protective sweep of the premises secured before the search warrant revealed a trove of weapons and drugs in plain view.
During the ensuing search, police found a stash including nine firearms—comprising four long rifles and five handguns—plus ammunition, marijuana, mushrooms, packaging materials, suspected fentanyl, and over $2200 in cash. Travis Hickly, 34, was arrested at the scene on various charges including felony firearms and narcotics-related offenses, as well as criminal attempt trespass and providing false identification to authorities. Hickly, who was subsequently taken to Allegheny County Jail, also had several outstanding warrants against him at the time of his arrest.
An investigation regarding Michael Olds, 24, has also been launched, with a warrant out for his arrest on charges of conspiracy, persons not to possess firearms, and other prohibited acts. Walking across an alleyway and entering an apartment building, the initial trespass attempt did not pose a direct threat to the childcare center and is deemed an isolated incident. The investigation is still active as the authorities continue to piece together the details of the case.
