A Pittsburgh man faces serious charges for the alleged transport and possession of material containing depictions of minor sexual exploitation. The indictment came from a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh, with Ashok Panigrahy, 53, as the defendant. As announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the indictment claims that in November 2022, Panigrahy was involved in transporting and attempting to transport such illegal material across state lines.
He is also accused of possessing said material. If convicted, Panigrahy could serve up to 20 years in prison and pay a fine of as much as $250,000. Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is leading the prosecution of this case. According to official sources, Homeland Security Investigations teams from Pittsburgh and Chicago carried out the investigation.
While the charges are severe, it is essential to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. According to the principle of presumption of innocence, Ashok Panigrahy remains innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law.
