Today, Racine County became the focal point of a security scare as an automated voice triggered a bomb threat to various governmental buildings, causing evacuations and an extensive sweep by law enforcement agencies. The threat, conveyed via a 911 call to the Racine County Communication Center, prompted an immediate shutdown of the courthouse and the law enforcement center; this precautionary measure led to the evacuation of all citizens and non-essential personnel, a news release detailed, as reported by FOX6 News.
Routine operations were halted with the courthouse and the Law Enforcement Center doors closed, not letting anyone in or out during the investigation with explosive K-9 teams deployed to ensure the buildings' safety. According to WISN, the officers and canine units conducted thorough sweeps that culminated without the discovery of any explosives, although the Racine County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Bureau remains committed to a deep investigation into the incident.
The Sheriff's Office has since given the all-clear with a proclamation that no future threats are known to the public, and county buildings along with agencies are set to resume their normal functions and hours starting Sept. 24.
