A Redford Township man's arraignment took place yesterday after he purportedly shot his 13-year-old stepdaughter in the leg. Christopher Delance Harris, aged 51, faces multiple felony charges for the incident that erupted inside a private residence on Tuesday, according to WWJ Newsradio. The bond stipulated by the authorities was $5 million at 10%, with the condition that Harris must be monitored by a GPS tether if released.
The incident, which unfolded around 7 p.m. near Lexington and 8 Mile Road, involved an altercation between Harris and another adult. As delineated by Redford Police Chief Jen Mansfield, the act of Harris drawing a firearm led to a discharge that "accidentally hit the juvenile." Despite statements highlighting that the teenage girl was not the intended target, details surrounding the other adult party remain undisclosed. Not far from the scene, officers were able to apprehend Harris, and during their search, they found two handguns near where they took him into custody, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
The girl, who was shot, received treatment at a local hospital and is expected to recover from her non-life-threatening injuries. The formal allegations against Harris include two counts of firearm possession by a prohibited person, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and a set of five counts of felony firearm among others, as per a list of charges that The Detroit News pieced together from court records and police press releases.
