Redmond Police have issued a warning for residents, especially within the East Indian community, following a series of bold daytime robberies. The crimes, carried out by an organized group with suspected Romanian ties, have particularly victimized elderly individuals. The suspects, using rental SUVs, have been approaching victims on foot and in parking lots, masquerading in social engagements to execute their heists.

The common MO involves male drivers and female passengers who engage unsuspecting pedestrians with requests for directions or deceptive offers of jewelry exchange. The perpetrators employ sleight-of-hand tactics to replace genuine articles with fakes or outright snatch valuables by force. According to Redmond Police Department reports, there have been five recent instances, where women, mostly dressed in long dresses, distract their targets to steal prized possessions.

Thankfully, no one has been seriously injured. However, these crimes raise concerns about the tactics used by transnational crime syndicates that exploit the social trust of tight-knit communities. "These are not Hate crimes, but rather crimes of opportunity where the thieves travel around affluent neighborhoods and search for potentially vulnerable victims," said Chief Darrell Lowe of the Redmond Police Department.
