Chaos erupted on the streets of Redwood City last month, resulting in an intense search for two suspects now behind bars for attempted murder. On August 3rd, a violent confrontation among a group near the 600 block of Whipple Avenue escalated to gunshots, according to the Redwood City Police Department. The altercation began when brothers Jaime and Raul Ontiverosalvarez confronted an employee at a local business, leading to a physical fight, bringing co-workers into the fray, and culminating in the discharge of a firearm.
Witness reports indicated that shots were fired as the brothers chased the victims down the street, although, by some stroke of luck, the gunfire struck no one. The suspects fled before help arrived, and the Redwood City Police’s Street Crime Suppression Team took up the case using evidence collected at the scene to identify and track down the Ontiverosalvarez siblings.
Following a meticulous investigation, the police arrested Jaime and Raul Ontiverosalvarez yesterday. A synchronized clampdown involving the Street Crime Suppression Team, Investigations Unit, and Special Response Team culminated in a search warrant being executed at an apartment on the 800 block of Palm Avenue. The capture was swift, with Jaime detained near the residence and Raul found to be carrying a loaded firearm at the time of his arrest.
The charges stacked against the brothers reflect the gravity of their alleged actions: Jaime faces one felony charge of attempted murder (Penal Code 664/187). In contrast, Raul faces not only the same charge but additional felonies for carrying a firearm with intent to commit a felony (Penal Code 25800(a)) and a misdemeanor for carrying a loaded firearm on his person (Penal Code 25850(a)).
