
A wanted felon's attempt to evade Richmond Police ended with their capture after a robust search operation in the North and East neighborhood on Garvin Avenue. According to the Richmond Police Department, the pursuit began when an officer on patrol identified the suspect behind the wheel of a vehicle.
The officer tried to engage the individual, initiating what would become a chase, as the suspect opted not to yield and instead fled the scene; the chase transitioned from a vehicle pursuit to a footrace after a short interval, with the suspect disappearing into the 3600 block of Garvin Ave. This residential area would soon become the focus of an exhaustive search effort got underway. Residents found their routines disrupted as law enforcement swarmed the area, closing off sections to search.
Richmond Police Department quickly organized its resources, enlisting the aid of two K9 units named Cash and Major, along with support from the California Highway Patrol's air division and the RPD's drone unit. Authorities meticulously combed through yards, employing their canine partners and technological assets to pursue the suspect.
The suspect, realizing the advance of the K9 teams and possibly reputing a confrontation with the dogs, decided surrender was the preferable option. The decision permitted his apprehension without further incidents. "We are happy that we could take this suspect into custody without injury to the public or himself," the Richmond Police Department conveyed the outcome of the incident, expressing relief that the situation was resolved with no harm to the suspect or the community.
