A tragic collision has claimed the life of a young Maryland woman in Northeast DC. The Metropolitan Police Department has officially identified the decedent as Maryori Daniela Sanchez-Marchan, a 21-year-old from Riverdale. The crash occurred on the evening of August 28, when a 2012 Infiniti FX35 sped through a red light on Eastern Avenue and collided with multiple vehicles, as per the MPD.
According to theMPD's statement, the Infiniti, traveling at an excessive speed, approached the Bunker Hill Road intersection around 6:41 p.m. The vehicle failed to stop for the red signal and struck a 2022 Hyundai Tucson that was lawfully crossing at a green light. The impact sent the Infiniti veering across the double yellow lines, where it hit a 2024 Fengyuan Rossi scooter carrying two women and ultimately crashed into a tree.
The violent crash resulted in the ejection of both passengers from the scooter. DC Fire and EMS teams rushed to the scene, where one woman from the scooter was pronounced deceased, and the other female passenger and the Infiniti's driver were transported to a hospital for emergency care, as detailed by the MPD. The authorities have actively encouraged anyone with information about the accident to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation by contacting the police or utilizing the designated text tip line.
