Baltimore County Police have confirmed that an attempted robbery was the catalyst behind the shooting of Mark Mckenzie, a Rodgers Forge resident and father. The incident, which left Mckenzie critically injured, occurred last Friday, according to FOX Baltimore. In response to the harrowing event, a community walk is set to take place on September 18, starting from Dumbarton Middle School and covering a mile through the neighborhood.
The suspect remains at large and was last seen driving a white Nissan Murano. No detailed suspect description has been provided by the police yet, and the BCPD has made no arrests in the case. Mckenzie, 50, discovered in an alleyway with a single gunshot wound, was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. He has a long road to recovery and will require multiple surgeries, according to information shared on a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $67,000 for his family.
Baltimore County Councilman Mark Ertel scheduled the community walk to display solidarity and perhaps calm the public unease. Mckenzie is known as a coach for Towson United Boys Soccer, a role celebrated by many in the community.
According to WMAR2 News, Metro Crime Stoppers has stepped in, offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information directly leading to the shooter's apprehension. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-866-756-2587 (7LOCKUP).
