Yesterday morning, a quiet drive along Highway 90 was abruptly disrupted when a family encountered what seemed to be a drive-by shooting. FOX San Antonio reports that at around 5:20 a.m., a 9-year-old girl sustained minor injuries after the rear window of the car she was traveling in mysteriously shattered near the 1100 block of Probandt Street. The young girl, sitting in the third row, was left screaming from the unexpected incident.
The girl's father, age 41, was behind the wheel when he heard a "pop" that was soon to be followed by the sound of his daughter's distress. Despite his quick reaction to pull over and investigate, the man did not manage to catch sight of the offending vehicle. However, his 14-year-old daughter claimed to have seen a black SUV at the time the noise occurred, according to the Express News. But even with this additional detail, no firearm or muzzle flash was observed to confirm the presence of an actual shooting.
The incident has prompted a police investigation, but so far, officials have found themselves without any clear suspects. The 9-year-old girl, whose name has not been released due to her being a minor, walked away from what could have been a much more grave situation with minor cuts on her arm. FOX San Antonio noted that the driver’s quick-thinking to stop and check on his daughter probably saved further harm.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues. Police are working to determine whether this incident was a random act of violence or if there are other factors involved.
