Reynoldo Orion Rios, a 23-year-old San Antonio resident, turned himself in to police on Monday, facing charges of murder for the April killing of Angel Hernandez at the Legacy Flats Apartments. According to details from an arrest affidavit mentioned by KENS 5, Rios was spotted entering the complex and was identified as the individual in a red hoodie previously seen in a Crime Stoppers report.
The altercation that led to the violence reportedly stemmed from a debt, as Rios claimed he owed Hernandez money and had arranged to meet her on the day she was found shot. In an arrest affidavit, obtained by KENS 5, he indicated a fear for his family's safety if he failed to pay the full amount.
The tragedy has left Diane Ruiz, Hernandez's mother, grappling with loss and sorrow. Speaking to KSAT, she expressed her grief, saying, "We miss her every day." She recalled her daughter as someone who had maintained acquaintance from high school with Rios and was seen interacting socially even after the incident, according to friends.
When questioned by KSAT about her feelings towards the suspect, Ruiz conveyed a mixture of sadness and a yearning for justice, stating, "He left her there like road kill. Do I wish him harm? Do I wish him ill? I don’t. Do I forgive him? Not at this time," she told KSAT. Ruiz is focused on the memories of her children, holding onto the times when they would sit and laugh together, cherishing those moments of familial warmth and togetherness.
