San Jose Man Charged With Grand Theft of Copper Wiring from Moraga StoreSource: Google Street View

The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office has disclosed that a San Jose man is accused of grand theft after allegedly swiping more than $950 worth of copper wiring from a Moraga hardware store. Details from the authorities suggest that Mitchell Bedolla Garcia, 45, executed a copper heist at Outdoor Supply Hardware on the 1500 block of Canyon Road on Tuesday.

According to reports, Garcia is said to have packed the rolls of copper wiring into an empty Shop-Vac box, sealed it to appear unopened, and then checked out as if he were merely purchasing the vacuum priced around $110. This move, the district attorney's office alleges, allowed him to leave the store undetected with the copper in tow.

However, Garcia's return to the same hardware store just two days later on Thursday to return some items would be his undoing. As per the district attorney's office, the OSH store manager, having recognized Garcia from security footage linked with the copper theft, promptly called the Moraga Police, leading to Garcia's arrest. At the time of his apprehension, it appeared that Garcia had outstanding warrants in other counties.

Garcia is now being held without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility, where he is to shortly be arraigned, according to the Contra Costa County authorities.
