In a string of car burglaries across Forestville and western Santa Rosa, one man has been arrested after a series of purses and bags were swiped from vehicles. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office announced that Peter Kopriva II, a 44-year-old Santa Rosa resident, is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with these crimes.
Victims had reported smashed car windows and stolen debit or credit cards, which were subsequently used. Detectives could home in on Kopriva as a suspect through surveillance footage and license plate reader cameras. When deputies apprehended him last Saturday, they discovered burglary tools, replica guns, knives, and around 27 grams of suspected drugs in his vehicle, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
Following the vehicle search, a search warrant for Kopriva's residence led to the recovery of suspected stolen laptops and a stolen motorcycle. The detectives believe more items found both in his car and home may originate from theft and are in the process of returning them to their rightful owners.
Presently, Kopriva is being held on $30,000 bail. His charges include two counts of felony burglary, felony vandalism, felony conspiracy, two misdemeanors for theft using a credit card, misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, and misdemeanor drug possession. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials indicate that one other suspect is involved in the case.
