Emotions ran high in Seattle as a community came together to honor Ruth Dalton, a grandmother whose life was tragically taken during a carjacking incident. As reported by FOX 13 Seattle, hundreds joined the memory walk, including Dalton's granddaughter, Melanie Roberts, who expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support saying, "There is a lot of people expressing their love and there has been for the last two weeks, it’s really been an amazing outpouring of support."

Among the attendees at the event were noteworthy city leaders like Mayor Bruce Harrell and Seattle Police Department Interim Chief Sue Rahr, who offered their condolences and spoke about Dalton's impact on the community. Mayor Harrell underscored the sentiment of the evening, captured in his statement to KING 5, "She is going to bring out the best in us tonight."

As the community gathered in unity, Melanie Roberts took a moment to honor the individuals who tried to intervene during the fatal incident. "Her heart was so big and so strong and it couldn't hold any more love that it broke that day," Roberts told KING 5 in a moving tribute. Participants reflected on Dalton’s legacy, with community member Pigott adding, "I'm going to remember her smile, all the animals and all of those who she came in contact with and I'll hold that close to my heart tonight."

Regarding the suspect, Jahmed Haynes' criminal history came under scrutiny when information emerged about a previous assault on correctional officers in 2003, that could have been his third-strike offense in Washington. Haynes entered into a plea agreement with Snohomish County prosecutors, which led to his eventual release in 2017. According to KATU, "Court records do not show any new criminal cases against Haynes since his supervised release ended." Haynes awaits his arraignment hearing for the charges stemming from Dalton's death this Thursday morning.
