Concerns have been raised over water quality at Folsom Lake after a sewage leak was detected on Sunday night. The El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) acknowledged that an unknown amount of sewage had entered Browns Ravine at Folsom Lake due to a compromised pipe near Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills. According to reports by FOX40, the leak began at 9:30 p.m. and was addressed shortly after midnight on Monday, when irrigation district crews repaired the leak after they managed to isolate and drain the sewage line.

As a precautionary measure, State Parks officials have proceeded to solely post danger signs and set up barricades around the impacted area following reports by CBS13. "I'm surprised we didn't hear anything about it at the front pay station," Gregg Bussey, a visitor at Folsom Lake, told CBS13. Despite these visible warnings, many visitors remained unaware of the incident as they ventured into the waters on Tuesday.

The extent of the contamination and its consequent risks to public health are still under investigation. "I don't know how many days it will take, but we will continue to test until we get the all clear," Jesse Saich, an El Dorado Irrigation District manager, stated in a CBS13 interview. Meanwhile, authorities have advised the public to avoid contact with the water at the Browns Ravine marina though they suggest that other areas of the lake remain unaffected.

The El Dorado Irrigation Distric is expecting the preliminary results of water tests by the end of Wednesday or early Thursday, with further results anticipated on Monday. Addressing the spill with urgency, crews are set to remain assigned until the affected areas return to normality. The El Dorado County Environmental Health Division, Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Bureau of Reclamation, and State Parks have all been duly notified about the spill, as per information obtained by FOX40. As the situation develops, residents and visitors are advised to stay informed and heed any official advisories.
