Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating a horrific collision that occurred in the early hours of a September Saturday, where two stolen vehicles met their demise and concluded with the death of a teenager, as reported by the department's official statement.
The probe into the crash revealed that around 12:15 a.m. on September 14, amidst the shadowed veil of night, two Hyundais, one black from 2016 and another white from 2020, were hurtling north on the 4300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. Having stolen both vehicles, their occupants dashed recklessly into oncoming traffic, only to collide with each other. While the black Hyundai stopped in the block, ensuing the crash, it was the white Hyundai that terminated its course by striking a tree.
Authorities disclosed that all individuals involved took flight, with one sorrowful exception. A sole adolescent remained at the scene, severely injured, and subsequently rushed to a hospital to combat life-threatening wounds. This 16-year-old boy, identified as Kavonte Whatley of Northeast, DC, did not survive the ordeal, succumbing to his injuries six days later on September 20th.
