Early Thursday morning, a double homicide investigation was launched following a shooting in the Kingsway East neighborhood of North St. Louis. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police found two men, both pronounced dead at the scene, on the 1600 block of North Kingshighway, around 3:20 a.m., as reported by First Alert 4.
The victims, a 42-year-old and a man in his 30s, have not been named as authorities work to identify them. This shooting is similar to a nearby incident where four people were shot on Wednesday, leaving two dead. So far this year, St. Louis has recorded 113 homicides. In connection with the shooting outside an apartment building near Hollywood Beauty Supply and the Urban League headquarters, a handgun was found on-site, according to 5 On Your Side. The Homicide Division is continuing with the investigation.
One of the victims has been identified by family as a 42-year-old resident of the Regency at St. Louis apartments, close to the Wohl Recreation Center and the Urban League. Family members told Fox 2 Now that he "had just returned from picking up a loved one at college when the shooting happened" and added that he "had no enemies." The other victim is in his early to late 20s.
The consecutive shootings, which occurred near community establishments, have not produced any information about potential suspects. Local law enforcement urges anyone with information to come forward as the community deals with the impacts of these incidents happening in such a short span of time.
