Calling all bowling enthusiasts and community supporters! It's that time of the year when the lanes at Strike Zone Bowling Center in Sunset Station become a beacon of support and inclusivity, as Special Olympics Nevada rolls out its annual Bowl for the Gold fundraiser. This community cherished event isn't just about strikes and spares; it's a powerful gathering that benefits athletes with intellectual disabilities. Get ready to hit the lanes on Saturday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for an affair that proves to be both heartwarming and competitive.
As reported by 8 News Now, the Bowl for the Gold event is a significant fundraiser for Special Olympics Nevada, ensuring that funds raised are dedicated towards nurturing athletes across four key areas. Aspiring to bring a wave of change through sports, health, education, and leadership training, this organization champions the spirit of inclusion and empowerment. With a registration fee of $60 for individuals or $240 for a team of four, participants are promised a trifecta of bowling games, alongside delectable food and non-alcoholic refreshments. Taking the lanes alongside enthusiastic participants will be Special Olympics Nevada athletes, ready to roll, mingle, and inspire.
But the fun doesn't stop at the "goofy bowl," "score bowl," and the strictly-for-laughs "just for fun bowl" setups. Bowl for the Gold ups the ante this year with a dessert auction, sweetening the deal with a spread of confections from local bakeries, keen on doing their bit to support the cause. With the baked goodies on the auction block, Allyce Pierson, senior director of Development & Community Engagement for Special Olympics Nevada, highlighted in an interview with 8 News Now, "The great thing about Bowl for the Gold is everything we raise here, stays here in Nevada to support our Special Olympics athletes in our four programming areas."
Special Olympics Nevada, an organization that doesn’t only concentrate on one-time events like Bowl for the Gold but instead delivers continuous support for adults and children with intellectual disabilities, is pivotal in our community. It offers year-round sports training, competitions, and vital programs targeting education and athlete leadership, as per KNTV.
